630M MOPA at Dayton

The 630M MOPA (89/802/811) was displayed at the Dayton Hamvention as part of the homebrew theme this year.  Plenty of questions were asked and photos taken like the one below!

630M MOPA 809 + 811

630M MOPA (Master Oscillator – Power Amplifier) consists of an 809 “High-C” Hartley capacitively coupled to a push-pull power amplifier, either running 809s or 811s.

Power output is on the order of 100-165W with 1600V on the amplifier tube plates.  CW note is clean and stable (slight chirp reported over the air).

Another 630M Hartley transmitter

Classic Hartley transmitter using an 811 tube.  Aprrox. output 45-65W (depends on coupling).

Rig is mounted on a 21 in. L x 18 in. deep board, cut from a 48×18 prefabricated, edge-glued shelf board from big-box home improvement store.  Stained with dark walnut finish.
